Abstract
At many clinics and laboratories, Aeromonas hydrophila were most often confused with the enteric bacteria. We have isolated the organism from three different patients admitted to the Kon Kuk university Chung-Ju Hospital. These were found among the specimens submitted to the hospital laboratory during the period of August 1989 through November 1990. Our findings were as follows : 1. Two specimens were the discharges from wounds of deep laceration. In the two, pure cultures of A. hydrophila were isolated. The wounds, in one case, were cut by a tree stump and, in the other, cut by a drainage pipe of pond water. The third case had no wound but symptoms of diarrhea and general wekness, and the organism was picked up from sputum BAP culture with beta-strept group-A. 2. The routes of the infection were most likely from soil and water. 3. In our Lab., all of the three isolates were sensitive to chloramphenicol, kanamycin, gentamycin, tetracyclin, amikacin and tobramycin. To cephalothin and carbenicilin, the strain obtained from the sputum was sensitive but the other two were resistant. 4. In ail(3) cases, tetracyclin and Amickacin were selectively administered, and all were cured. 5. For primary identification of the organism, the positive oxidase test, the characteristic colony form and clear hemolytic reaction were helpful.
